The Mendoza Message for the

April 25, 2025

We are finally getting some warmer weather. Yet, it looks like it has not decided to stay that way.  Please remember to look at the temperatures and weather daily.

On Monday, your child sent home a field trip form for our Field Trip to Tappan Middle School to see Moana.  The students are excited to see the play, especially since they found out that Ms. Strassel is directing it.

Yet, a week and a half later, our class will be going on our next field trip at Freeman Environmental Educational Center on 5/13. On Friday, May 2nd, I plan on sending the permission slip home.

When we go to Freeman Center, your child will need to bring lunch.  If you want your child to receive a sack lunch from the school.  Please look at the email, read it carefully, and reply back with me on your child’s choices for their lunch.

Also, remember to turn in the Talent Show form by May 5th, if your child would like to be in it. In case you misplaced the form, the bottom of this newsletter has the form.

Lastly, please note, the date of Field Day has changed.  It is now on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Remember to look at the Lawton Lost and Found regularly. The children are taking off their coats when they are outside for recess and forgetting to bring it in.  Therefore, there is a large number of coats in the Lost and Found.

If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check:  Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25

Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips.  If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now.  Don’t want to wait until the last minute.

Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.

Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

Supporting Relationship Skills at Home and Beyond

This week at school, students are learning about the importance of relationship skills—the abilities that help us connect with others in respectful, kind, and meaningful ways.

We’re encouraging students to remember:

“I can apply my relationship skills at school, at home, and in my community. I can use these skills to establish and maintain healthy relationships with others.”

Whether it’s taking turns during a game, showing empathy to a sibling, or helping a neighbor, these everyday moments offer great opportunities to practice positive relationship skills.

Families play a key role in helping children strengthen these skills through modeling, conversation, and encouragement. Thank you for all you do to support your child’s social and emotional growth!
