The Mendoza Message for the
Week of May 16, 2025
As the school year is getting closer to the end, we have a number of activities planned. Please look at the bottom of this newsletter.
Even though Tuesday was a cool and wet day, we still had a wonderful field trip to the Freeman E.E. Center. Your children walked on the grounds to look at plants, and learn about seeds and seed dispersal. Then, we went inside the Freeman Center to learn about Zero Waste. Please look below to see the pictures.
Remember, we will be taking the NWEA on Monday. Make sure your child’s laptop is charged to 100%.
Field Day is also this week. It is on Friday, May 23rd. Please be sure to have your student dressed for the weather!
Let’s not forget! The 2nd Grade Talent Show is on Thursday, May 29th in the afternoon.
Also, the 2nd Grade End of the Year Picnic will be on Thursday, June 5th. Here
is the Sign-up Genius.

Finally, the Ice Cream Social. It is on Friday, June 6th.
Also, this is allergy season. There are a number of students with watery eyes,
itchy eyes, running noses, coughs and sneezes. So, please remind your child to
catch their sneeze and to use tissues. Then, please remind your child to wash their
hands afterwards. Just in case it is a cold and not allergies.
Remember to look at the Lawton Lost and Found regularly. The children are taking off their coats/sweatshirts when they are outside for recess and forgetting to bring it in. Therefore, there are a large number of items in the Lost and Found.
If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check: Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25
Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips. If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now. Don’t want to wait until the last minute.
Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.
Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.
Information from Lawton:
TRAILS: This Week in SEL-Setting and Achieving Goals!
This week, our students learned that working toward a goal takes practice, persistence, and a positive mindset! We talked about how everyone has worked hard to get better at something—whether it’s reading, playing a sport, or making new friends. To help us stay motivated, we learned two helpful strategies: breaking big goals into smaller, manageable steps and using our own strengths and past successes to keep going. Ask your child what goal they’re working on and how they plan to reach it!
