The Mendoza Message for the
April 11, 2025
This has been a very cold week. Yet, the children had a little visit from Bertie on Thursday to warm them up. Look below for some of the photos of Bertie’s visit.
Our field trip is on Thursday. Thank you for the chaperones who were able to pick a different day to chaperone.
Please remember- your child needs to bring lunch. They will be eating at Ella Sharp. Also, pay attention to the weather. We will be walking outside.
As it is mentioned below, there will be a 2nd Grade Talent Show on Thursday, May 29th in the afternoon. A time will be determined and shared with you as soon as we can. A letter of all the information you will need will be sent home soon. In the meantime, here is some information, so you can start a conversation about the Talent Show. I did talk about it with the class. Your child has the option to participate in the Talent Show. If your child is interested in being in the Talent Show, your child can do a solo, partner or group performance. If your child is doing a partner or group act, your child can be with another 2nd grader (not just in my classroom). Next, the performance can only be 3 minutes long. Also, it has to be school appropriate-including the music. Lastly, your child will need to practice the performance on their own time. We will not be practicing it here at school. Again, a letter will be coming home soon.
Remember to look at the Lawton Lost and Found regularly. The children are taking off their coats when they are outside for recess and forgetting to bring it in. Therefore, there is a large number of coats in the Lost and Found.
If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check: Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25
Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips. If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now. Don’t want to wait until the last minute.
Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.
Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

Our SEL work continues on with Lesson 19 -Dealing with Conflict
In this week’s lesson, we’ll learn that conflict is a normal part of relationships and that differences in thoughts and feelings can sometimes lead to conflict. We’ll review helpful skills for managing conflict and discuss how choosing the right behaviors can make a situation better, while hurtful behaviors can make things worse. Remember, if a problem is dangerous or happens over and over, it’s important to ask an adult for help. But many conflicts can be solved using the skills we’ve already learned!
