The Mendoza Message for the
Week of January 24, 2025
There is not much to share in this newsletter. Due to the weather, we were only together in the classroom on Thursday and Friday.
Please remember that there is an Early Release Day on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Dismissal will be at 1:00pm.
The 2nd graders did a wonderful job singing at the MLK performance yesterday. At the bottom of this are the photos from the assembly
Next week will hopefully be a warmer week than this week. Again, please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. I always tell the children that boots and snow pants not only do they keep you warm, but also dry and clean from the mud.
By the way, the children moved the snow on the playground and found ice. Basically, the entire playground (not the blacktop and sidewalks) is one big smooth sheet of ice. Therefore, if you come to the Lawton playground during non school hours, please be safe. Also, please remind the children to stay away from the icy area during school hours for their own safety.
Another item, some of you might be thinking about Valentine’s Day. We will not be in school on Friday, February 14th. Therefore, we will be having a small and simple celebration on Wednesday, February 12th. Yes, your child will be able to pass out Valentine’s. But, if your child is passing out Valentine’s, they must pass out one per student. There are 24 students in the classroom. One other item, passing out Valentine’s is an option.
If you would like to help out at Lawton during school hours (lunch helper, chaperoning field trips, etc.), you will need to fill out a form. Here is the link. If you want to volunteer at Lawton. I would encourage you to do it as soon as you can. It can take some time before you are cleared. Also, once you are cleared, it is good for the entire 2023-2024 school year.
Remember to look at the Lawton Lost and Found regularly, especially now. The Lost and Found gets filled quickly during the winter months.
If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check: Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25
Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips. If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now. Don’t want to wait until the last minute.
Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.
Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

Information from Lawton:
TRAILS LESSON 11
Next week, our building-wide focus in Trails will be on learning relaxation techniques to manage the uncomfortable feelings that come with stress. We will help students understand that stress is what you sometimes feel when you're worried, uncomfortable, or overwhelmed by too many things happening in your life. Worry can make your body feel tense. Students will also learn that relaxation techniques can be used not only when feeling stressed but as part of their daily routines.
