The Mendoza Message

For

January 10, 2025

It was so nice to see all of the students this week. What an exciting first week of 2025.  The Lions are the NFC North Champs!

The children are starting to get back into the routine of school.  This can be a crazy time of the school year with a number of days off due to weather and/or breaks.  Please make sure your child gets enough sleep, and keep to their daily schedules.

Also, this has been a chilly week.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.

The children took the Math and Reading NWEA this week. Your children did a wonderful job.  If your child did not finish their test.  I will be doing make-ups next week. Swo, don’t worry.

The 2nd Graders will be singing at the MLK Assembly on Thursday, January 23rd at 10:00 am.  Parents are welcome to come and watch.

On Thursday, January 16th, we will have the Lawton School Wide Day of Play as earned from the HVHS fundraiser. Here are some examples of things your child may bring in:

  • Non-violent toys (no weapons)

  • Legos, blocks, building materials, etc.

  • Dress-up

  • Puppets

  • Stuffed animals, dolls, action figures (non-violent)

  • Board games (non electronic)

  • Puzzles

  • Sport equipment (for outside only)

  • Craft items

****** No electronic devices

Science Olympiad has started.  Thank you to those of you who let me know if your child is attending an after school practice for Science Olympiad.  I will make sure they will get to their areas.  Just please remind your child the place/room where they will meet.

Finally, please remember to return their AADL book at any of the AADLs.  Your child’s AADL book is due on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Remember to look at the Lawton Lost and Found regularly, especially now.

If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check:  Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25

Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips.  If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now.  Don’t want to wait until the last minute.

Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.

Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

TRAILS LESSON 8 - Getting Active

Thank you Mr.Stewart for guiding our learning this week. Moving our bodies can help us to feel better and have more energy! Sometimes when we are not active for a long time, we become bored, angry, or sad. It is helpful to get up and move even if we do not feel like it.

When we run, dance, or play a sport our hearts beat a little faster and we feel happier afterward. If you notice you are feeling down, try doing something active and see if your feelings change!

What can you and your family do today (or anyday) to get active? Can you and your family brainstorm a get active list? Try it and get active together.
