The Mendoza Message

For

November 26, 2024

This week went by very quickly. Remember, there will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. School will resume on Monday, December 2nd.

Today, you should have received an email that had your child’s report card.  Please click here for the link to a Read at Home Plan for Student Success. This is a wonderful resource.

Also, if you are traveling to visit family for Thanksgiving, please let me and the office know if you will not be here part or all of next week or even the week after Thanksgiving.

On Wednesday, December 11th, the Second Grade classes will be recognizing the 70th day of school.  The children can choose to participate if they want by dressing up. Here are some ideas of school appropriate 1970s fashion : bell bottom, polyester, floral patterns, disco, wide collars, etc.  Remember, dressing up is optional. Your child can wear regular school clothing.

On Thursday, December 12th, our class will be going to the Downtown AADL. On this field trip, the children will be receiving an AADL library card.  After Thanksgiving Break, I will be sending home the permission slip for the field trip.  Also, I will be sending home the form for your child to receive their AADL Library Card- which needs to be filled out and returned back to me.  If your child has a library card already, there is no need to fill out. But on the day of the field trip, please send in your child’s library card to school with your child.  During our time at the AADL library, your child will be checking out a library book.

As we have seen, this is the time of the year that the temperatures will vary.  Please make sure your child is dressed properly for the weather.  Your child may need to layer their clothing.

Also, please label your child’s items.  If it is left in the classroom, I can make sure they will get it back.  Another thing, please check daily that your child brought everything home.

If something did not make it home, please check Lost and Found, Lunchroom and the Bus (for those who take the bus) right away.  The quicker you notice it is missing, the quicker it will make it back home. And labeling your child’s items will make it easier to find too. FYI, when I was out, I came back to a classroom with a number of jackets in the classroom with no name inside.  So please check daily, and label your child’s items.

Please look at the Lawton Lost and Found.  It is starting to get filled up.

If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check:  Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25

Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips.  If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now.  Don’t want to wait until the last minute.

Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.

Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

TRAILS Unit 1 Update: Self Awareness

This week, our school goal was to connect with the messages our bodies send about our emotions. We focused on the idea that our bodies are partners in recognizing how we feel. Sometimes, we yawn when we're tired or shiver when we're cold—these sensations happen naturally, and we don’t always have control over them. In the same way, our bodies also send signals about the intensity of our emotions. Some feelings hit us like crashing waves, while others come gently, like soft waves lapping the shore. We explored how to recognize both the physical sensations and the emotions behind them.

Also, if you are traveling to visit family for Thanksgiving, please let me and the office know if you will not be here part or all of next week or even the week after Thanksgiving.

Since next week is a short week, I will not be sending home the reading log and any other homework. Your child has a week off from homework.

Remember, the Book Fair is still open online.  Book Fair online shopping is from November 13-26th.

Thank you families for donating books from the Book Fair. I truly appreciated it.  The children are enjoying the stories.

We had a very busy week.  There was Picture Re-Take Day on Wednesday.  Also on Wednesday, we had a wonderful assembly with an author.  Some of you might have seen her at the Book Fair Wednesday from 4-6:00pm.  On Thursday, we had a Book Fair.  Lastly, on Friday, we went to the garden and planted bulbs.

Remember, the Book Fair is still open online.  Book Fair online shopping is from November 13-26th.
