Mendoza Message

for

September 28, 2024

On Friday evening, the rain held off to make sure that the Run-a-thon was a wonderful event.  I hope your children share what they learned about Johnny Appleseed on Thursday.

This is the time of the year that the temperatures will vary.  Please make sure your child is dressed properly for the weather.  Your child may need to layer their clothing as the temperature gets colder.  Also, please label your child’s items.  If it is left in the classroom, I can make sure they will get it back.  Another thing, please check daily that your child brought everything home.  If something did not make it home, please check Lost and Found, Lunchroom and the Bus (for those who take the bus) right away.  The quicker you notice it is missing, the quicker it will make it back home. And labeling your child’s items will make it easier to find too.

Here is the link to the Parent-Teacher Sign up Genius. Please sign up for a time if you have not done so yet. Also, I am leaving this in my newsletter, so you look and see when you sign up. Lastly, at my Parent-Teacher Conference, you may bring your child.

If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check:  Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25

Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, and to chaperone field trips.  If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now.  Don’t want to wait until the last minute.

Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.

Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

What we are doing in the classroom:

ELA: In Reading, we are working on making predictions. In Writing, we are generating ideas for a small moment.

Math: We are almost done with Unit 1: Establishing Routines in EDM. We have worked on equivalent names for numbers, sums of 10, number grid puzzles, Even Numbers and Odd Numbers.

Science: We started our Unit: Shifting Sands.  Right now, we are learning about maps, and finding the landforms/waterways on a map.

Social Studies: We just started our first Unit: Geography.  The information that we have learned in Science is blending into this unit. In this unit, we will be learning about maps.  We will be creating a Michigan map that includes landforms, waterways, etc.

Word Study: We just finished learning about digraphs (ck, th, sh, ch, wh, ng, nk and ph).  Next, we focus on learning how to write words with a Vowel-Consonant-silent “e” ending.

The Mendoza Message

for

September 20, 2024

The First Day of Fall will be this weekend.  It looks like it will be a beautiful day.

Also, I hope everyone will enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend- It might be

our last weekend of warm/hot temperatures.

It was so nice to see so many of you at Curriculum Night.  In my email, I linked

my Google Slide presentation in case you were unable to come.

Again, in the email, you will see the link for my Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Please sign up for a time if you have not done so yet. At my Parent-Teacher

Conference, you may bring your child.

Another item to remember is that our 1st Early Release Day will be on Tuesday,

September 24th at 1:00pm.  If there is a change with your child’s pick up, please let

me know.

Now that I know about food allergies.  Here are some things that your child can

have for a snack: fresh fruits and veggies, dips for veggies, yogurt, cheese sticks,

crackers, pretzels.

Your child can not have: chips, cookies, candy, finishing their lunch.

Please remember, snack time is only about 5-10 minutes.  Therefore, whatever snack

is not finished will go home.

Thank you for returning the White Lawton folder everyday.  Please look through

the papers in your child’s folder.  If there is something that needs to return to school,

keep it in the folder.  Otherwise, keep it at home.

As I mentioned at curriculum night, your child’s first weekly homework sheet will

be going home on Monday.  Next week’s homework will only be reading and

completing the reading log. You have a choice for the reading log.  You can do the

front or the back or both if your child is ambitious enough to do both. I only need to

see the front or the back.

Remember, laptops will be going home for the weekend. Again, once the laptops go

home, remember, it is your choice if you want your child to be on their laptops over

the weekend.  Just watch your child when they are on their laptops. Please keep the

laptop in a safe place when it is not in use.

Thank you for reaching out to me about issues with your child’s laptop and putting

in a help ticket.  But just in case, here is the information to contact ITD (which is

on the AAPS website-under “Students & Parents” -> “Parent & Family Resources"

-> “Family Tech Support”):

The Mendoza Message

For

September 13, 2024

The children made it through their first full week of school.  They didn’t seem

tired at all.  Just remember to make sure they have enough sleep.  Some of the

children have been sniffling and sneezing.  It could be allergies or the beginnings

of an illness.  If your child is eating and sleeping properly, that will help in

preventing some illnesses.

Remember, Curriculum Night is on Tuesday from 6-8:00pm.  Read below to

see the schedule.  I can’t wait to see all of you.

We just introduced another student to the class.  So, during Snack Time, your

child still needs to bring in fresh fruit and veggies.  Your child should not be eating

chips or cookies. They can have it for lunch.

This was a hot week.  Thank you for sending a water bottle with your child. It

looks like it will be warm next week too.

Your child should have brought their laptop home over the weekend.  The QR

code card and charging cord stays home.   We will not collect the charging cord

until the end of the year. So, please place the QR code and charging cord in an

area where you can find it. Please take a photo of their QR code just in case.

Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom

for Monday. I have a very small charging station in the classroom.  We will

charge the laptops throughout the week as needed in the charging station.

Another item about laptops.  Once the laptops go home, remember, it is your choice

if you want your child to be on their laptops over the weekend.  Just watch your

child when they are on their laptops. Please keep the laptop in a safe place when it

is not in use.  Finally, if there's a problem with the laptop, please contact ITD.

Here is the information to contact them (which is on the AAPS website-under

“Students & Parents” -> “Parent & Family Resources“-> “Family Tech Support”):

Hours of Operation
Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Call:  734-997-1222

Please look in your child’s backpack.  I sent home a “Technology” Handout.  Click Here to see what it looks like.  The last page has your child’s Clever QR code.

I do have a blog ( https://mendozaclassroom.blogspot.com/)

and a web page (https://mendozaclassroom.wixsite.com/mendozaclassroom).

The blog is a place where I place my newsletters.  This way, you have one place

to find all of my newsletters in one spot, and you don’t need to look through your

emails.  My web page is a resource spot.  I have links to multiple websites, links

to my blog and I plan on having an area to find Math Family Letters and

Home Links.

Thank you for returning the white Lawton folders as a daily “Home Folder”.

Your child is to bring it back and forth to school daily.  If you have any notes

for me or the office, please put it in the folder.  I look through them every morning.

Plus, you will notice that I placed another Clever QR code on the “white” Lawton

folder just in case.

Again, I wanted to let you know that I will not be reading emails after about

4:00 pm, over the weekend and during school breaks.  I will reply to your email as

soon as I can when I return to work.

Lastly, thank you for donating items from my “Wish List”.  One item that is not

on the Wish List that I would love to have is tissues.  Allergy season is here, and

the children would need them.  Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish

List”:
