The Mendoza Message
August 31, 2024
The First Week of School has been a wonderful week. It was so nice to see so many of you. The children are getting to know each other, classroom routines/procedures/rules and reminders of school rules.
Remember, every child can receive free breakfast and lunch this year. Please note, that in order for it to be free, your child needs to take a complete breakfast and/or lunch. A la carte purchases (like only getting milk with lunch) will be charged to families.
The students saw that the laptops got delivered to the classroom. So, they are asking when we will be receiving their laptops. I told the children that there are some items that need to be completed in school first before sending them home. I am in the process of getting the Clever badges completed. Next, in school, we will have a time to open up and use Lexia Core 5, Dreambox, Prodigy and Epic Books. Afterwards, I will send the laptops home. Once the laptops start going home, your child will keep their laptops at school Monday-Friday. They will take them home on Friday. Over the weekend, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday. Their laptop charging cord will stay home. I have a charging station at school.
The white Lawton folders is a daily “Home Folder”. Your child is to being it back and forth to school daily. If you have any notes for me or the office, please put it in the folder. I look through them every morning.
Right now, there is no homework. I will talk about homework on Curriculum Night- Tuesday, September 17th. The first homework will be coming home after Curriculum Night.
I know there will be some birthdays coming up. If you choice to bring in something for your child’s birthday to share with the class, please make sure it is a non-food item. A small token is just fine. If your child has a summer birthday, we can celebrate it at their ½ birthday.
Snack time will be in the afternoon since we have an early lunch at 11:30 am. Right now, snack is fruits and veggies. Once I know if anyone has a food allergy, I will let you know what is allowed at snack time.
Another item, make sure your child dresses for the weather. This past week was hot. But next week it will be cooler. Also, please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school. They will need to have a water bottle with them everyday. A number of children have forgot to bring them to school last week.
Please note, keep all toys are home. Some of the children are bringing in some small items from home. They just need to stay at home.
Ms. Zalewski reached out to me. She would like to invite anyone to be part of the Girl Scouts. The first meeting will be at the Pittsfield Library fromm 5-6:00pm on Thursday, September 12th. Here is her contact information if you have any questions: luluwags@gmail.com.
One other item, I still do not have a room parent. If you are interested in bring a room parent, please reach out to me.
Lastly, thank you for donating items from my “Wish List”. One item that is not on the Wish List that I would love to have is tissues. Allergy season is here, and the children would need them. Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”:
