The Mendoza Message for the
Week of June 1, 2025
I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend. This week went by quickly. The cool weather is still here. Hopefully, we will have warmer weather next week.
We had a wonderful Talent Show. All of the performers did an amazing job!! Below are some photos of the Talent Show!
The 2nd grade classes will be having a Spirit Week. A note went home on Friday. Here is the schedule:
Monday, June 2nd- Beach Read Day: Bring in a beach towel, stuffed animal, and a great book to read in the classroom.
Tuesday, June 3rd- Game Day: Bring in a board game or
a deck of cards to play with your friends.
Wednesday June 4th- Show & Tell Day: Bring in
something special (that fits in your backpack) to
share with the class.
Thursday, June 5th- 2nd Grade End of Year Picnic
Friday, June 6th- Movie Day. Bring in a special snack to
eat in the classroom while you watch a movie with
your classmates.
Here are a more couple of reminders:
Our 2nd Grade Picnic will be on Thursday, June 5th. It will be on the Lawton Playground from 1:45-3:15 pm. We will be setting up outside of my classroom where the children line up in the morning (the door by the lunchroom). Remember, families are welcome. Please see the Sign-Up Genius here for the requested items and volunteer spots. WE REALLY NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!
Ice Cream Social is on Friday, June 6th. Please read at the bottom for more information.
Library Books are due. Please return them to school as soon as possible.
Your child’s devices will be picked up during the week of June 2nd. Therefore, this past weekend was the last weekend for the laptops to be going home. Also, you need to turn in the charging cord. Therefore, please look for it, and return it to school with your child on Monday.
Lastly, the last day of school is on Wednesday, June 11th. Please let me and the office know if you know you will be going on Summer Break sooner than June 11th. I just want to make sure your child will be able to take home all of their classroom items before they leave for vacation.
Again, as the school year is getting closer to the end, we have a number of activities planned. Please look at the bottom of this newsletter. With all of these wonderful activities, children tend to need reminders to make safe choices. We have been having conversations of kind words, and keeping hands to yourself. Please have a conversation with your child to help reinforce this.
Remember to look at the Lawton Lost and Found regularly. The children are taking off their coats/sweatshirts when they are outside for recess and forgetting to bring it in. Therefore, there are a large number of items in the Lost and Found.
If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check: Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25
Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips. If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now. Don’t want to wait until the last minute.
Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.

Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.
Information from Lawton:
Volunteers and Dessert Donations Still Needed! Please consider signing up for a volunteer shift or donating a dessert for the dessert walk (both store bought and homemade work, as long as ingredients are listed) - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B044DABA72BAB9-56702109-lawton#/
Raffle Basket Items Still Needed!
The Ice Cream Social is right around the corner (June 6th at 5:30pm)! Each year, the ICS has a raffle for themed gift baskets. The ICS Committee relies on the generosity of families to create the baskets. If you are able, please consider donating any of the listed items for your child(ren)'s grade (or other grades). Click on your child’s grade level below to see their basket theme and the items needed. All slots for 2nd Grade are full. But if you have another child in a different grade, please look and see if there are slots that need to be filled.
