The Mendoza Message

for

February 7, 2025

Welcome to the first full week of February. February is also Black History Month.  We will be learning about many different African Americans throughout this month. Also, as we have experienced, an interesting weather week.

Wednesday was Global Play Day!  The students had a wonderful day playing games with their friends.

NAAPID is on Monday, February 10th. If you will like to stop by our classroom for a visit, see the times below for the best time:

9:30-10:20: to work in your child’s classroom to work

on a literacy activity

10:20-10:50: Gym (Join you child in gym until the

assembly starts)

10:30-11:00: Story teller Assembly in the MPR (lunch

room)

11:30-12:18: Lunch and recess with your child in the

lunchroom and playground

12:30-1:30: Art (Join your child in the Art room)

See the filer below for the events scheduled throughout the day.

I know that you received a letter that illnesses have been going around the building.  Just as I mentioned last week, if your child is ill, please keep your child home.  Below is the letter that was sent to families (check your emails). Read it carefully.  It will let you know when your child should stay home and when they can come back after being ill.

Also, our simple class Valentine’s Day celebration will be on Wednesday, February 12th.  This is only a class celebration. There is no need for parent volunteers that day. We only decorate our Valentine bags, pass out Valentine’s and have a simple snack. Please click here to go to the Sign-up Genius on items that are needed for our snack. Remember, if your child is passing out Valentine’s, they are to pass out Valentine’s to all classmates.  One other item, passing out Valentine’s is an option. There are 24 students in our class.  Below is a class list.

Now that we had a “Snow Day”, the 101st Day of School will be celebrated on Thursday, February 13th!

We will enjoy a day of thematic activities that day.  If your child would like to wear black and white clothing, spotted clothing or puppy ears, etc they can.

In typical Michigan weather, we will never know what type of weather day it could be. So, please remember to make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.  I always tell the children that boots and snow pants not only do they keep you warm, but also dry and clean from the mud. Also, please remember to make sure that your child has dry clothing in their backpack, especially socks.

Remember to look at the Lawton Lost and Found regularly, especially now. The Lost and Found gets filled quickly during the winter months.

If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check:  Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25

Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips.  If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now.  Don’t want to wait until the last minute.

Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.

Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

Information from Lawton:

TRAILS LESSON 13

Self-management, a core SEL competency defined by CASEL, involves using skills to respond to and manage thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in ways that are helpful both in the short- and long-term. Our lesson this coming week is the culminating lesson on self management, pulling all of the work over the past four lessons together. Identifying our big emotions and finding what works best for each of us individually to self regulate. Next week we will move on to the area of Social Awareness now that we are more aware of our own bodies and what works best for us in regards to managing our emotions.
