The Mendoza Message
for
October 14, 2024
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. Remember, we will be back in school on Tuesday, October 15th.
This is the time of the year that the temperatures will vary. Please make sure your child is dressed properly for the weather. Your child may need to layer their clothing. Also, please label your child’s items. If it is left in the classroom, I can make sure they will get it back. Another thing, please check daily that your child brought everything home. If something did not make it home, please check Lost and Found, Lunchroom and the Bus (for those who take the bus) right away. The quicker you notice it is missing, the quicker it will make it back home. And labeling your child’s items will make it easier to find too.
This week, I will have Parent Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please click the link to the Parent-Teacher Sign up Genius. This way you can reference the day and time you scheduled your conference with me. Remember, my last conference day is on Monday, November 4th. Also, at my Parent-Teacher Conference, you may bring your child. Lastly, please use the doors at the back of the building by the lunchroom. I will be at the door to bring you in.
If you would like to volunteer in the building during school hours you will need to complete this background check: Complete Volunteer Background Check 24-25
Completing the background check allows you to be with children during the school day, class parties, and to chaperone field trips. If you think you might be helping out at any time during the year, please fill it out now. Don’t want to wait until the last minute.
Our 2nd Grade Fall Festival will be on Thursday, October 31st from 10:20-11:05am, since your child’s lunch will be at 11:15am that day. The children will be able to do fun activities between my classroom and the other two 2nd grade classrooms. Since it is an Early Release Day, we decided that the children will not be able to wear costumes. Instead, your child can wear Fall colors (black, orange, brown, red, yellow). Lastly, we decided to have Friday, November 1st as a Pajama Day.
Again, here is the QR Code to the Amazon “Wish List”, since I have added some items.
Remember, please charge the laptop to 100%, so it is ready for use in the classroom for Monday.

Math: This week we worked on using these math strategies Making 10, turn-around rule, and near double facts
Science: We using the information from science: landforms, waterways, and maps, and using that information for Social Studies
Social Studies: In our Geography. The information that we have learned in Science is blending into this unit. In this unit, we will be learning about maps.
